i've played the violin and the flute and i quit. i wanted to play the clarinet but now i want 2 play sax.help?
I want to play the Alto Saxaphone. what are some pro's and cons? how can i decide. my parents said if i keep my grades up we will talk about it in december. i dont want to waste their money by keep changing the instrument. how can i decide?
Don't quit clarinet, just add sax to your repertoire. Keep up with the clarinet and playthe saxophone along with it. The have very similar fingering and if you play tenor or soprano, transpose the same as well. Many musicians double on Sax, Flute and Clarinet and Tommy Newsom even doubled on trumpet! If you want to play alto it will require a bit of extra thought as the alto transposes to the sixth, but the fingerings and clef are still the same. Single reed instruments are pretty much all that way. The clarinet will help you with intonation and the sax will help you with passion, but they really feed off of each other and are not exclusive at all!
